Federal investigators share findings in Tracy Morgan truck crash

Due to the severity of truck accidents, the legal system offers a variety of resources to truck accident victims and their families. According to a report from federal transportation safety investigators, the truck driver that crashed into the limousine that was carrying comedian Tracy Morgan and others was speeding at the time of the accident. Morgan was seriously injured, as were others travelling in the limousine, and another comedian in the limousine was killed.

The report from the National Transportation Safety Board finds that the truck driver, who worked for retailer Walmart, was traveling 65 miles per hour in a 45 mile per hour zone at the time of the crash. The report also reveals that the truck driver had made several stops prior to the crash, the last of which was in Pennsylvania.

According to the report, at the time of the crash, the truck driver had been on the job for approximately thirteen and a half hours. Under federal trucking regulations, truck drivers are permitted to work up to fourteen hours a day and can be behind the wheel during that time period for a maximum of eleven hours. The truck driver's final destination in New Jersey, even at the speed limit, would have pushed the permissible limits. Authorities that have charged the driver assert that he had not slept in 24 hours at the time of the crash. The truck driver has been charged with death by auto and assault by auto.

Semi-truck accidents can lead to serious injuries and death. Because of this, injured victims, and families of victims, may be able to bring a personal injury, or wrongful death, action for recovery of damages. A negligent truck driver, such as a truck driver driving while experiencing truck driver fatigue or a truck driver who is speeding, may be liable to compensate victims, and families of victims, for the harm suffered. In certain circumstances, based on the relationship between a truck driver and the truck company, and the nature of the truck driver's activities at the time of the truck accident, the truck company may also be liable to victims for damages.

Victims of truck accidents can suffer life-changing harm and this can extend to families of victims as well. Because of this, the legal system provides protections and options for injured victims and their families.

Commonwealth v. Candice Steinbacher – Motion for Judgement Acquittal Granted

Motion for Judgment of Acquittal for a Driving Under the Influence (DUI) prosecution was granted by Lycoming County President Judge Nancy L. Butts, after Attorney Kyle Rude argues that the Commonwealth could not prove Ms. Steinbacher was in actual physical control of a motor vehicle. Ms. Steinbacher was arrested after Williamsport City Police believed she switched seats with her boyfriend in order to avoid an arrest for DUI.
